Dr. Gerardo H. Guzman, 70

SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Dr. Gerardo H. Guzman, 70, was held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Father Victor Subb and Father Brian LaBurt officiating. He died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin after a brief illness.
Dr. Guzman was a native of Buga, Colombia, South America. He received his undergraduate degree from the Colegio Academico and his medical education from the Universidad de Valle. After his internship, he practiced family medicine in Colombia, South America for ten years. In 1972, he and his wife moved to the United States to further his medical career. Dr. Guzman began a rotating internship at Detroit Medical Hospital and served two years residency in Rehabilitation Medicine at Wayne State University Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Guzman practiced family medicine in Soperton, GA and also served as physician for Treutlan County Shock Unit for several years. In May of 1982, Dr. Guzman opened his Family Practice, joined the staff at Emanuel Medical Center and later served as Chief of Staff of the emergency room. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Latin American Medical Association and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Swainsboro.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Guzman of Swainsboro; two daughters and a son-in-law, Angelica Guzman and John Rincon of North Berger, N.J.; and Cristina Guzman of Statesboro; two sisters, Dylia Guzman and Maria Cristina Guzman of Cali, Colombia; two brothers, Marino Guzman of Buga, Colombia and Dr. Luis Eduardo Guzman of Cali, Colombia.
Pallbearers were Diego Escobar, Juan Fernando Munoz, Fernando Jose Victoria, Rocky Brazzell, John Rincon, Dr. Leonardo Ardo Campo, Dr. James L. Ray and Walter Mann. Honorary pallbearer is Nathan Hale.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
