DEA’s Lanier wins gold at Westfield

DEA’s Chris Lanier won all eight of his matches this weekend at the Wayne Morris Hornet Invitational Wrestling Tournament and won the gold medal in the 145 pound weight class. The tournament was held at Westfield School in Perry with nine Georgia Independent School Association schools, including DEA, participating.

Three other DEA wrestlers, Chris Henry, Matt Hendrix and Devon Scalf also competed. Henry finished the tournament with a 4-3 record while Scalf won five of his eight matches during the two day event.

Lanier recorded pins over Hunter Sinclair of First Presbyterian, Adam Barroso of Mt de Sales, Logan Layfield of Southland, Luke Campbell of Westfield, and Stephan Wise of Stratford. Lanier also defeated Charles Dearbury of Riverside Military Academy and and John Ludwig of Trinity Christian and won by forfeit versus Tattnall Square.

Henry picked up victories over Ross McCallie of Mt de Sales, Will McDavid of Stratford and forfeit wins over Tattnall Square and Westfield. Scalf defeated Will Patterson of FPD and Zach Hodges of Trinity Christian and picked three forfeit wins. The Hendrix win was by forfeit.

DEA will compete in a meet at Trinity on Thursday, Jan. 20.
