In the regular monthly meeting of the Emanuel County Commission Monday night, board members chose Emanuel County Chief Tax Appraiser Daryl Gray to occupy the open position on the Tax Assessor’s board. Part of the reasoning behind choosing Gray was his familiarity with procedures of the board.

In other appointments, the commission tapped Ms. Bonnie Rose and Ms. Judy Powell to serve on the Aging Advisory Committee. The body also submitted nine names to the Emanuel County Hospital Authority for final approval to fill three existing openings.

In other business:

-Commissioners agreed to pay an additional $25,912.38 in fees to Emanuel Medical Center to satisfy the expired contract for EMS services in the county.

-Although a petition was heard before the commission to abandon a portion of LB Hall Road, residents of the area express opposition to the request. LB Hall Road will remain open.

– A vacancy was announced on the Emanuel County Library Board.

– Jamie Lee Calhoun was granted license to sell beer and wine with consumption on premises at 2559 Canoochee-Garfield Road.

-CM Rowland was granted license to sell beer and wine with consumption on premise at 324 Fairground Road.

– All bids were rejected without opening on a mowing assembly after it was pointed out to the body that the initial specifications may have been to brand-specific, requiring that the county get the equipment from an out-of-county vendor.

– The board struck down a request from Broadhurst, the contract hauler of solid waste for the county, to pay an additional $2100 per month in fuel surcharge. County Administrator Ezra Price said that after reviewing the contract with the county attorney, they could find no provision the required the county to pay the additional fee.
