It was a very tough week for the varsity basketball teams at David Emanuel Academy as both the Eagles and Lady Eagles lost all three games that they played. ECHD meeting held

Emanuel County Board of Health held their regularly scheduled board meeting on Dec. 8.

Board of Health members present were Dr. James Ray, chairman; Wilbur Stephens, vice-chairman; Keith Thompson, county commissioner; Ray Woods; Butch Frye, superintendent of Emanuel County Schools; and Kim Overstreet. The Tigers were led by Gold Medalist Zac Frye (152 wt class), silver medalist Michael Singletary (112 wt class), Logan Brantley (125 wt class), and JJ Nobles (215 wt class). Bronze Medalists were BJ Taylor (140 wt class), and 4th place finishers were Cody Kersey (130 wt class), Chris Moore (160 wt class), and Garret Worthen (275 wt class). Other wrestlers were Chase Marsh, Blake Rewis, Tyler Dawkins, Brandon Worthen, and Justin Bell. They were led by student assistant coaches Bud Long and Chip Morgan. JR Shuman was on the film crew, Nicole Smith was the mat girl, and Ricky Worthen was the team manager.

    Mikey Miller is honored at two birthday parties

    Michael Miller Jr., son of Chaughn and Donna Smith of Summertown, was honored at two birthday parties at his home. Mikey was 7 years old Nov. 14.

    The first party was on Mikey’s birthday. His home was decorated with multi-colored balloons and streamers inside and outside. Happy Birthday banners were also hung.

    Spaghetti and tacos with all the trimmings and strawberry cake and ice cream were served.

    DEA students make 1050 Club

    David Emanuel Academy has announced that seven students have recently qualified for admission into the 1050 Club. This is an elite group that is honored by achieving a score of 1050 or better on the SAT.

    The students that have scored 1050 or better on the SAT are Belle-Anne Bowen, William Henry, Katie Lanier, Corey McNeely, Emily Redding, Dale Rigdon and Tyler Williams.

    Volunteers needed at detention center

    Detainees that are incarcerated at the Emanuel Probation Detention Center will be returning to their respective communities after their term of confinement is finished. It is important that during their time of incarceration significant attention be given to issues that will encourage these offenders to return to the community.
