Christopher Scott, senior at Lovejoy High School, is one of 78 players from across the United States selected to participate in the U.S. Army All American Bowl on Jan. 15, 2005, at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas. He is the grandson of Fannie Scott Hughes of Swainsboro and son of Harold and Tracey Scott. Harold Scott is a 1977 graduate of Swainsboro High School.

NEWARK, N.J.—Funeral for Freddie (Fred) Bush, 57, was held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel in Newark, N.J. with Rev. Arthur C. Sessions officiating. Burial was in Heavenly Rest Memorial Park in East Hanover, N.J. He died Oct. 24, 2004.

SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Marvin Odell Collins, 77, was held Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Swainsboro Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathi Parchem, Rev. Kelmer Durden and Rev. Paul Baker officiating. Burial was in Eastbrook Cemetery. He died Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.

Volunteers needed at Detention Center

Emanuel Probation Detention Center in Swainsboro and Twin City needs volunteers to work with adult male detainees. Areas include basic literacy, music, parenting, military protocol, personal finance or job readiness.

One primary mission of the center is to prepare detainees to reenter their communities as more productive and positive citizens. Volunteers can have a tremendous impact in achieving that mission.
