SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Maude Fordham Durden, 87, was held Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Shelton Mikell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Friday, April 8, 2005 at Bethany Home Nursing Home in Vidalia.

On the program will be Leroy Jordan, B. Coleman, John Coleman Jr., John Parker, David Turner, Isaac Bright, Aaron Turner, Rudolph Anthony Jr., Artis Field and Brotherhood Community Choir.

Phillip Lee Williams to speak at East Georgia College

Philip Lee Williams, award-winning novelist from Georgia, will give a presentation in the auditorium of the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center on Thursday, April 21, at 11 a.m. He is the author of nine novels, two memoirs, and a children’s book. Also a widely published poet, he founded and edited the poetry journal Ataraxia.

SHS class constructs tote bags for Relay for Life team

The Clothing and Textiles class at Swainsboro High School designed and constructed three tote bags for a fundraiser to benefit the school’s Relay for Life team. The Relay for Life team sold tickets for the three bags – one Georgia Southern, one University of Georgia and one SHS Tiger.

    SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Freddie Ray Bell, 80, will be held Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery near Modoc. He died Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
