HIGGSTON—Funeral for Ronnie Martin Brady, 58, was held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Herbert Toole and Rev. Bruce Tanner officiating. Burial was in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Kite. He died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness.

Firefighter grants awarded through Homeland Security

Secretary Tom Ridge has announced 88 grants to fire departments throughout the United States in the twenty-ninth round of the Fiscal Year 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Georgia will receive $199,800 to assist local fire departments.

Two percent pay raise approved for BOE employees

At its first meeting of 2005, Emanuel County Board of Education approved a two percent pay raise for employees who are not already covered. “This covers about 200 employees,” said Superintendent Butch Frye. He estimated the pay increase to cost between $150-200,000 of local funds.
