60th Annual Pine Tree Festival in full swing

The Pine Tree Festival kicks off tonight with the Toddler Mr. and Miss pageants at Swainsboro-Emanuel County Auditorium at 7 p.m. for ages 3-Pre-K. The Reverse Beauty Pageant is scheduled Thursday at 7 p.m. at Swainsboro-Emanuel County Auditorium. SWAINSBORO—Memorial service for Viola Mae Ramsell, 74, will be held in Chemung, Ill., at a later date. She died Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Emanuel Medical Center.

Michelle Blocker and Daniel Thompson were united in marriage March 26 in a garden wedding at the home of the groom’s parents. John Sullivan officiated at the 6:30 p.m. double ring ceremony.

Beth Spencer named ‘Lady of the Year’

Beth Spencer, director of Public Relations and Volunteers at Emanuel Medical Center has been named “Lady of the Year” by Beta Sigma Phi. The club sends out nomination forms to all civic clubs in the county then selects a winner from submitted nominees.

Brantley retires from EGC

Margaret Brantley, senior secretary of payroll in the East Georgia College Business Office, has recently retired after 30 years of service at the college. She began at Emanuel County Junior College (now East Georgia College) in January 1975 as part-time switchboard operator.

Kaidy English, fifth grade student at Swains-boro Elementary School, was honored at the State DAR Conference held in Atlanta April 1 as State DAR American History Essay Contest winner at the school luncheon. She was presented a medal, certificate and monetary gift from State Regent Mrs. Shelby Whitson.

Aaron and Nicole Powell of Midville announce the birth of their daughter, Callie Grace Powell, April 15 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. Maternal grandparents are David and Eloise Coleman of Midville. Paternal grandparents are Joel and Cheryl Powell of Norristown. Great-grandparents are Tom Kersey of Norristown and Ruby Oglesby of Midville. Callie was welcomed home by her sister and brother, Hayley and Blake.
