Employee at W. Main BP reported someone pumped $10 in gas and did not pay.

A Ponderosa Dr. man reported unknown persons came into his workshop and stole a cordless drill and saw.

Telephone scam in operation

According to Emanuel County Sheriff Tyson Stephens, Emanuel County residents have received telephone calls from someone claiming to work for the Social Security Administration, or that the resident has won a sweepstakes. The caller has knowledge of the person’s name and telephone number, including unlisted numbers, and claims the government owes the resident money or that he or she has won a sweepstakes. Myrtle Peebles Curry, 79

SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Myrtle Peebles-Curry, 79, was held Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Jenkins and Rev. Marty McLeod officiating. Burial was in Eastbrook Cemetery in Swainsboro. She died Dec. 15, 2004 at Swainsboro Nursing Home after a brief illness.

LaKeith Hughes graduates from Georgia Tech

LaKeith Hughes recently graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology and has accepted a position with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Industrial Engineering.

Arnold Bennett, 65

MILLEN—Funeral for Arnold Bennett, 65, was held Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Deep Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Barksdale and Bobby Taylor Jr. officiating. Burial was in Bennett Family Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at Syl-View Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mr. Bennett was a native of Jenkins County and retired from Jockey International. He was a Baptist.
