Rocking to Kool and the Gang’s tune “Celebrate,” numerous students from Emanuel County participated in the 35th annual Special Olympics games held at Tiger Field at Swainsboro High School on Friday, March 4. These students from Swainsboro Elementary School were among the many enthusiastic children and adults who participated in the event.

    Audrey K. Oglesby, 78

    GARFIELD—Funeral for Audrey Louise Kay Oglesby, 78, was held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Garfield Baptist Church. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery. She died Tuesday, March 1, 2005.

    Mrs. Oglesby was a native of Emanuel County and retired from Atkinson Pecan Products. She was a member of Garfield Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie L. Oglesby.

    Henry wins wrestling tournament

    Jarett Henry is the 2005 Georgia Kids State 60 pounds and under Pee Wee Wrestling Champion. He was also named most outstanding Pee Wee Wrestler at the State Wrestling Tournament held Feb. 26 in Atlanta. He competed against 12 wrestlers in his division or weight to obtain the championship title. He has wrestled 28 matches this season and won 27 of these with 21 pins.     World War II veteran Dr. William H. (Billy) Black was interviewed at his home in Swainsboro on Monday, Feb. 21. Dr. Black is well known in Swainsboro and was for many years a pharmacist here. He was born and raised in Dublin where his father was also a pharmacist and his mother was a talented artist.
