SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Barnett Ely, 75, will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Eastwood Church of God with Rev. Bruce Flowers and Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. Burial will be in Eastbrook Cemetery. He died Monday, March 7, 2005 at his residence.

Tech students named GOAL finalists

Four finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) program at Swainsboro Technical College were announced at a reception held in their honor on Friday, Feb. 25. The students were selected by scores derived from teacher recommendations, academic work and the judging of the in-house screening committee.

The exhibition is dedicated to displaying the most current and up-to-date products and services that will allow participants to be at the leading edge of knowledge concerning what is available in today’s market.

SHS students advance to state weight-lifting championship

On Saturday, Feb. 26, Swainsboro High School participated in the GACA-Lee Murray Weight-lifting competition held at Statesboro High School. Thirty SHS athletes participated in the event. Two SHS athletes, Antwon Canady and Markus Foots, finished as the runner-up in their weight classes and will compete in the GACA state weight-lifting championships.
