Janice Gantt Ward was sentenced Friday, Dec. 10 in Emanuel County Superior Court by Judge Kathy S. Palmer, Middle Judicial Circuit. Ward negotiated a plea of guilty on count 1, crossing the guard lines with drugs; and count 2, possession of marijuana. Mikey Miller is honored at two birthday parties

Michael Miller Jr., son of Chaughn and Donna Smith of Summertown, was honored at two birthday parties at his home. Mikey was 7 years old Nov. 14.

The first party was on Mikey’s birthday. His home was decorated with multi-colored balloons and streamers inside and outside. Happy Birthday banners were also hung.

Spaghetti and tacos with all the trimmings and strawberry cake and ice cream were served.

Travel accident predictions

The Department of Motor Vehicle Safety (DMVS) and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) released today the travel accident predictions for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel periods. Both agencies offer simple tips that can mean the difference between a safe or a deadly holiday for many motorists.

The boys of Emanuel County Institute’s basketball team began their regular season play in East Laurens on Tuesday, Nov. 30. The Bulldogs’ fell short to the Falcons with a final score of 64-48, East Laurens. Stephen Johnson lead ECI with a total of 12 points. Johnson Chapel to feature Christmas music Dec. 17

Johnson Chapel Church, located between Soperton and Adrian, will feature a “Night of Christmas Music” Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The choir will present the cantata “Light of His Love” as well as many new and traditional Christmas songs. The Tigers were led by Gold Medalist Zac Frye (152 wt class), silver medalist Michael Singletary (112 wt class), Logan Brantley (125 wt class), and JJ Nobles (215 wt class). Bronze Medalists were BJ Taylor (140 wt class), and 4th place finishers were Cody Kersey (130 wt class), Chris Moore (160 wt class), and Garret Worthen (275 wt class). Other wrestlers were Chase Marsh, Blake Rewis, Tyler Dawkins, Brandon Worthen, and Justin Bell. They were led by student assistant coaches Bud Long and Chip Morgan. JR Shuman was on the film crew, Nicole Smith was the mat girl, and Ricky Worthen was the team manager.

The JV team competing this past weekend in Savannah at Jenkins High School at the Warrior Open. The team was lead by a host of Tigers: Javon Young, Jeffrey Wiggins, Brandon Wright, Samuel Derr, Brent Bowen, Chris Bowen, CJ Cady, Chris Bowen, Brandon Fields, Derek Odum, David Marsh, Nik Dunn, Cornelius Brown, and Javier Bullard. The JV Tigers were led by Coach Derr and Coach Deremiah.

Swainsboro Kiwanis held its Spouses meeting and also its Christmas party recently. During the meeting, spouses were all introduced. Betsy Johnson led the group in singing a number of Christmas songs. When the group sang “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” she had a number of members help her in leading the song and providing some animation. Mrs. Johnson also performed several solos for the group.
