SECRD Mite Boys compete in district

Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department’s Mite Boys Allstar Team competed in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association First District Basketball Tournament held Feb. 19-23 in Springfield. The Class B tournament was hosted by Effingham County Recreation and Parks.

Swainsboro-Emanuel County was eliminated from the tournament by Thomson/McDuffie.

Canoochee Riverkeeper receives award

Top awards and a flood of recognition went to South Georgia Conservation groups at the Georgia River Network’s 2005 Conference held in Milledgeville recently. Canoochee Riverkeeper was honored for being the Watershed Group of the Year. Georgia River Network, a statewide nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the conservation of Georgia’s waters, presented its first annual River Celebration Awards honoring the successes and dedicated efforts of river activists in Georgia.

United Christian Outreach presents youth explosion

United Christian Outreach Ministries will present Youth Explosion Night Friday, march 4 at 7 p.m. On the program will be L’Saundra McNeal, Iesha McGruder, Brianna Hackett, Whitley Bostic, Dasha Harris, Norman Bostic, Ka’Ron McNeal, Orlando Oglesby and Willow Spring Youth Choir. Guest speaker will be Tyrone Howard, 16, of Soperton. Instrumental music will be by The Young Men On The move For Christ.

Pastor is Bishop K.E. McNeal.

The annual Eggs and Issues Breakfast was held Saturday, Feb. 26 at Emanuel Medical Center. Among guest speakers was Rep. Butch Parrish, who updated guests on current legislative issues. The event was sponsored by Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce and Emanuel County Farm Bureau.

    Forrest Hayes from Swainsboro High School has been named Emanuel County’s STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) student system winner. This announcement was made at the STAR Recognition Luncheon held at the Edenfield House Inn Thursday, Feb. 24 at 12 noon. Forrest selected Melanie Frye as his STAR teacher.
