Canoochee River Race postponed to April 30

Due to continuing heavy rainfall in the area, the 2005 Canoochee River Race organizers decided to postpone the race to Saturday, April 30. The race had been originally planned for April 2 and had already been postponed to April 9.

    Miss Brooke Riner, bride-elect of Jared Stubbs, was guest of honor at a neighborhood kitchen shower March 18 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Travis Garrett. Helping Mrs. Garrett host the afternoon event were Mrs. Gail Edenfield, Mrs. Carol Hooks, Mrs. Rosalind McVey, Mrs. Jana Lee, Mrs. Amanda Peebles and Mrs. Tonya Pepin.

    SWAINSBORO—Funeral for Thelma Waller Peebles, 90, will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 2 pm. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.

    David Emanuel Academy staged a four run rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a dramatic come-from-behind 6-5 win over first place Robert Toombs Christian Academy in Stillmore last Tuesday.     Burriss to speak at Rotary April 25

    Ms. Annie Hunt Burriss, senior advisor to Gov. Sonny Perdue and executive director of Commission For A New Georgia, will speak to the Rotary Club of Swainsboro at its regular weekly luncheon on Monday, April 25. She was appointed by the governor to these positions Jan. 1, 2004.
