On Friday, January 25, Charlie Elliott, director of Swainsboro-Emanuel Area Recovery Community Help (S.E.A.R.C.H.), presented a check to District Attorney Tripp Fitzner on behalf of the Georgia Council of Substance Abuse. The funds were disbursed to cover expenses for the Rally for Recovery which took place in the fall.

The Mill Creek Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the EGSC Foundation to provide support to majors in biology at EGSC to take part in a week-long study abroad experience in Costa Rica during the Spring 2019 semester. Several students from Emanuel County Institute attended the annual Georgia Senior Beta Convention at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center on January 23 through January 25. While there, they showcased their academic and leadership abilities. The students also brought home various awards.

According to Emanuel County Sheriff J. Tyson Stephens, a Thursday afternoon shooting in the Dellwood community of northern Emanuel County led to the death of 41-year-old Sarah Kay Akridge.
At approximately 5 p.m., deputies responded to the area after receiving a 911 call of shots being fired. Upon arrival, Akridge was located in a vehicle slightly off the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.
