Wiregrass Chapter receives awards

   During its monthly meeting held June 14, the Wiregrass Chapter received a flag streamer for having several members attend and participate in a gravemarking event in Augusta. Vice president Steve Burke presented the streamer to sergeant-at-arms George King. The banner will be added to the chapter’s flag.

Jones, Rigdon pocket cash for winning essays

   In honor of Georgia Cities Week, the Twin City Main Street Program sponsored an essay contest with the topic of “If I Were Mayor, I Would…”. The city received many submissions from the fifth graders at Twin City Elementary, and two students were chosen as the first and second place winners. Cayden Jones was awarded $50 for his first-place essay, and Allie Rigdon was awarded $25 for her second-place essay.


Ridden the new train yet?

   Interfor recently donated a train play system to the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Parks and Recreation Department. Originally built for use in the Pine Tree Festival & Southeast Timber Expo parade in May, the train was installed in the playground at Harmon Park in Swainsboro for area children to enjoy.
   The recreation department would like to extend its gratitude to Interfor for supporting the youth of Swainsboro and Emanuel County.

Three injured in bus/truck crash

   On Wednesday, June 13, three Evans County Schools employees were injured in a collision between a 2009 GMC mini school bus and a Freightliner bobtail tractor owned by Williams Brothers Trucking. The crash occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 South and Quick Road.
