SECRD 8U girls all-star team to play for state title

   The 8-and-under (8U) girls all-star softball team from Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department went undefeated in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) District 1 Tournament, played in Lyons June 25-29, and will now compete in the GRPA State Softball Tournament slated for July 10-12 at Magnolia Sports Complex in Moultrie.

   The 10-and-under (10U) girls softball team from Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department (SECRD) will represent District 1 in the 2018 Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) State 10 and Under Girls Class A/B Softball Tournament at Springfield’s Clarence E.    On June 22-26, The Swainsboro-Emanuel 10-and-under (10U) boys all-star baseball team competed in the 10U District 1 Class B Baseball Tournament hosted by Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department at Mill Creek Regional Park in Statesboro. Results were as follows:

   After winning the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) Class A/B State Softball Tournament held June 22-26, Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department’s (SECRD) 12-and-under (12U) girls all-star team will advance to state to compete for the title on July 10-12 at Diamond Lakes Regional Park in Augusta.    Swainsboro-Emanuel County Parks and Recreation Department’s 8-and-under (8U) boys all-star baseball team traveled to Effingham County Recreation and Parks to compete in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association 8U District 1 Class B Baseball Tournament on June 22-26. Fire damages kitchen at Presbyterian Apartment

   On Monday afternoon, June 25, Swainsboro Fire Units were dispatched to 310 Mary Ann Street for a reported fire in the structure. Engine 1 arrived at the Presbyterian Apartments to observe smoke showing along the roof line and exiting doorway to an apartment.

EGSC earns Joseph M. White Award from GAPPA

   East Georgia State College recently earned the Joseph M. White Award from the Georgia Association of Physical Plant Administrators (GAPPA). The award is a $1,000 grant presented to a member institution’s facilities department to be used at the discretion of that department’s management.
