All-region accolades pour in for Swainsboro Tigers

All-region teams were announced last week, and the Swainsboro Tigers dominated first and second teams with 15 total selections. Kade Youmans was named 2-AA Offensive Player of the Year, and KJ Starnes was named 2-AA Defensive Player of the Year.

Swainsboro veterans to be featured in Marietta school’s Gallery of Honor

Soon, the Learning Commons of Due West Elementary School of Marietta will be transformed into a Gallery of Honor in remembrance of veterans. Several veterans with ties to Swainsboro will be featured in the gallery. Labeled with the veteran’s name and branch, the photographs will remain on display throughout the month of November. A traditional Fallen Soldier table will also be featured in the gallery.

SHS observes Veterans Day

Swainsboro High School (SHS) celebrated Veterans Day Monday, November 12, with a program that featured Lieutenant Michael McNeal as guest speaker.

A native of nearby Montgomery County, McNeal is active duty with the U.S. Navy, currently stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He is the son of SHS bookkeeper Julie Gillis.

Seedling Garden Club holds annual Christmas auction

One of the first events of the holiday season is the Seedling Garden Club’s annual Christmas auction.

This year’s event was graciously hosted by Ginny and Dess Smith at their Swainsboro home. Additional hostesses were Yonna Bailey and Jan Hooks.

On Tuesday, November 13, the Probe College Fair Tour hosted a free event from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. inside Swainsboro High School’s gymnasium. For many, Probe is the first way to obtain information about prospective colleges. The annual series of events also gives universities the chance to recruit new students.

Stolen car found rolled over, unoccupied

Blue Star memorial assembled in Burke County

Garfield Community Club has busy November meeting

The Garfield Community Club’s monthly meeting was called to order at 2:30 p.m. by Sharon Cowart at the home of Janice Hendley.
