On Saturday, June 9, Swainsboro Police Department (SPD) hosted its first civilian weapons course. Developed to assist citizens in understanding the law as well as basic firearms handling and marksmanship, this course gave those in attendance an understanding of Georgia law as it pertains to weapons carry and the use of force.

Even though school is out of session, Family Connection is still educating students through its fun summer programs.
Its Chopped Junior Advanced class was completed last week, and the chefs learned advanced culinary skills while learning the importance of nutrition and making healthy food choices. Some of the dishes prepared were gourmet omelettes made in a waffle iron, focaccia bread in a Crock-Pot, and cauliflower crust pizza.

Dr. Deborah Kittrell-Mikell, director of Academic Support Services on East Georgia State College’s Augusta campus, and Astraea Thigpen, academic advisement specialist on EGSC’s Swainsboro campus, had a unique opportunity to spend their 2018 spring break in Sweden. The East Georgia Crossfire fastpitch organization held a 12-and-under (12U) girls fastpitch tournament at the Twin City Recreation Department on Saturday, June 16, to raise money for the Trevor Radford Fund, whose family is working to purchase a service dog for Trevor.
