Kemp visits Boneyard BBQ

   On Friday, July 13, Brian Kemp, Republican governor candidate from Athens, stopped by Boneyard BBQ in Soperton to grab a barbecue sandwich on his 50-county, 37-city bus tour. Kemp was welcomed by owners Wayne and Wanda Scarboro of Swainsboro. He is running against current lieutenant governor Republican Casey Cagle in the primary runoff on July 24.

Flat’s annual back to school drive deemed a success!

   On Saturday, July 14, Flat’s Lounge hosted its fifth annual Back to School Supply Drive at Reggie’s Car Care Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Several locals attended this family-oriented event, making it a huge success. Children attendance received school supplies for the upcoming school year, and were served complimentary grilled hotdogs and hamburgers.

   On Saturday, June 30, Kanyon Oliver, the 11-year-old daughter of Tiffany and Timmy Oliver of Twin City, traveled to Tampa, Florida, to compete the 2018 AAU Gymnastics National Championship.
   Coached by Mandi Purcell of Southeast Gymnastics Academy, Oliver competed in the Xcel Gold division. She placed first in the nation on beam and sixth in the nation overall.

Camp Invention inspires young scientists

   More than 50 elementary students recently experienced the magic of invention at the Sudie Fulford Community Learning Center at East Georgia State College.
