On February 10, Swainsboro High School’s basketball cheerleaders traveled to Atlanta to State Farm Arena to participate in a halftime show known as the Hawks Extravaganza. The squad was one of 25 cheer and dance groups who shared the floor.

Advanced Metal Components in Swainsboro recently donated metal to the Ag Mechanics classes at both Emanuel County Institute and Swainsboro High School.
The metal was pre-cut by AMC into pieces that form a small toolbox. Students in the Ag Mechanics classes will work to weld the toolbox together. East Georgia State College announces the appointment of Jessica Williamson as the new director of EGSC-Statesboro (EGSC-S). She has served as interim director since July 1, 2018.
As director, Williamson will oversee the daily delivery of services at EGSC-S, work collaboratively with Georgia Southern University to facilitate student transfers and contribute strategically as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Recently, one of Vidalia Heritage Academy’s high school scholastic chess teams won the 2019 GICAA High School Chess State Championship. VHA entered two high school chess teams, and both ended up making it to the championship rounds with one team making it to the final round.

The annual ECI pageants were held February 2 inside the school’s auditorium and at the end of the evening, Anna Wiggins was crowned Miss ECI 2019. Morgan Taylor placed first runner-up, Destiny Akridge placed second runner-up, Taylor Radford placed third runner-up, and Ally Sasser placed fourth runner-up.

The ECI baseball team started the 2019 season last week with wins against two Region 2-AA teams.
Tuesday, the Bulldogs took the short trip up Lambs Bridge Road to take on their neighbors at Tiger Field. ECI defeated Swainsboro 9-2 on a windy, rainy afternoon to pick up their first win of the season.

David Emanuel Academy’s varsity boys basketball team traveled to Rome to play Unity Christian School in the first round of the GICAA state playoffs. Unfortunately, the Lions lived to see another day with a 60–50 win over DEA.

The second round of the GICAA basketball state playoffs was a battle of the Eagles as David Emanuel and Grace Christian Academy squared off Friday, February 15, at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon.
