The Friends of George L. Smith State Park recently completed a service project, and the result is a new flagpole directly beside the park’s office.

The Friends paid for the flagpole with money raised from events and incentive payments from volunteer hours.

Friends of George L. Smith State Park is a chapter of the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, which is a state-wide non-profit organization. The mission of Friends is to partner with, promote, and preserve Georgia state parks and historic sites. Throughout Georgia, Friends work to raise awareness of the economic and intrinsic values of Georgia’s greatest treasures.

If anyone is interested in volunteering, please reach out to the park office at 478-763-2759 or on Facebook at Friends of George L. Smith State Park.
