Funeral services for Mary Ella Phillips, 78, were held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Mosley’s Funeral Home with Elder D.G. Mosley officiating. Interment followed in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. She passed away Monday, September 30, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Mary Ella Phillips was born the fourth of five children to the late Willie Lee Wilcher Sr. and Johnnie Mae Wilcher. A native of Swainsboro, she attended the Emanuel County School System. Phillips was known as a fun person to be around, always telling jokes and making people laugh. She was married to the late Rufus Phillips, and enjoyed growing flowers, cooking for her family, and fishing. In addition to her parents and husband, Phillips was preceded in death by one brother, Willie Lee Wilcher Jr.; and one sister, Nellie Ruth Williams.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Wilcher of Swainsboro; three sisters, Mae Francis Stinson and Essie Mae Starks, both of Jacksonville, FL; and Ella Mae Worthen of Swainsboro; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were family and friends of Phillips.

Mosley’s Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
