The Fall Line Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting Tuesday night, September 10, at the Farm Bureau building in Sandersville. With President Sandy Mercer presiding, 12 members attended.

The program for the evening was presented by Compatriot Dr. John Derden of the Wiregrass Chapter in Swainsboro. His program was titled “The 1783 Treaty of Paris” and gave an international perspective on the American Revolutionary War.

Compatriot Derden is retired from East Georgia State College in Swainsboro, where he taught history and is a professor emeritus. He and his wife, Carolyn, live in Swainsboro. Their son, Mark Todd Derden, and grandson, Bryson Gage Derden, are both members of the Wiregrass Chapter.

John Chastain is National SAR Patriot for all three of the Derdens. Patriot Chastain participated in Virginia patriotic service and signed the Oath of Allegiance.
