COTW: Emanuel County Food Challenge team

This week’s Cooks of the week are members of the Emanuel County Food Challenge team. The group will be competing November 9 at Rock Eagle-4H Center during the Food Showcase, marking the first time Emanuel County 4-H has ever had teams competing in Food Challenge.

The junior team consists of Tisey Powell, Yi’Zhariah Bell, Faith Ann Rogers, Spencer Lawrence, and Aliya McCoy (not pictured).

Senior team members are Arham Sham, Marshall Amerson, Jack Williams, and Grace McBride (not pictured).

Coaches for Emanuel County’s team are Becky Amerson, Lynn Torrance, and T’Neil Williams. 

Food Challenge is a Chopped-type competition. The youth have no idea what they will be given to cook and will have to make a healthy main dish out of basket items and a few pantry staples in 40 minutes. They also have to give the judges an oral presentation about the recipe they created, food safety practices, and their knowledge of MyPlate. The teams have been practicing for several weeks and would like to share a few things…
