Football fans will get their first opportunity to see their Swainsboro Tigers in action this Friday night as Swainsboro travels to Statesboro to test themselves against the Blue Devils. Swainsboro lost a defensive struggle last year to Statesboro, 7-0, in the preseason matchup.

Third-year head coach Scott Roberts will have his team ready to hit someone with a different colored jersey, but he also enters the season with a talented and experienced group of players. Senior QB Kade Youmans leads the way for an offense that should again feature his arm and a dangerous group of receivers led by Cedric Seabrough and Javon Brown. Youmans had a breakout season a year ago and should step on the field this Friday with full command of the offense and weapons at his disposal.

The Tigers’ defense is peppered with seniors throughout, notably Ka’yun Davis on the defensive line and KJ Starnes in the defensive backfield. This stout defensive unit from a year ago went five consecutive games without allowing an offensive point and returns many of their playmakers to once again be a dominant group.

Swainsboro will use this preseason contest to get them ready for a bruising and physical home and season opener the following week against Jefferson County.
