Summer has officially hit, and Shepeard Community Blood Center is feeling the heat. Like many nonprofit blood centers around the U.S., Shepeard is struggling to get blood donors in the door during the summer months. This has the potential to negatively impact local hospitals. The local blood supply is supported strictly by the donations of volunteer blood donors. Shepeard supplies this blood to several local hospitals spanning Georgia and South Carolina.
At this time, Shepeard is in urgent need of all blood types, but especially O Positive, AB Negative, A Negative, B Negative, and B Positive blood donors. If you are an O Negative blood donor, you are always needed as this blood type is the universal donor.
To entice blood donors to come donate during this holiday week, Shepeard is offering a free movie ticket to all donors—whole blood or platelets. This promotion will last until July 3.
Donors can donate at any of Shepeard’s three centers to get a movie ticket or at several different mobile drives. Please call the Augusta Center at 706-838-4551 to find a mobile-driven near you.
Donors must be in good general health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17-years-old (or 16 with written parental consent) to donate.
Be sure to bring a photo ID or Shepeard donor card with you when you go to donate.
