The Xi Delta Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is once again celebrating what is now a 12-year-old tradition of the organization. That tradition is the making of a donation to Franklin Memorial Library in honor of any new grandchildren born into the family of a Beta Sigma Phi sister during the club’s calendar year, which spans from August to May of each year. The donation is earmarked specifically for the purchase of new children’s books for the library.

In this era of such a technology-based world, the women of the chapter feel that there is something special about reading a book together, for both the grandparent and grandchild/children. There aren’t many things dearer than holding a child in one’s lap and reading to them from a real book or allowing them to read to their grandparents. It is a special time of togetherness. Perhaps this is why the members of Beta Sigma Phi find this tradition one of the club’s favorite service projects.

The sisters of the sorority are not only proud to be able to help the library purchase these new books but also to honor each new grandmother and the newest additions to their families. The following is a list of those grandmothers, followed by the names of their latest grandchild born during the 2018/2019 Beta Sigma Phi year:

• Holley Barrick, Iris Grady Brantley

• Maribeth Clark, Birdie Douglass Clark

• Pam Edenfield, Gatlin Wyatt Edenfield

• Phyllis Reddish, Gavin Michael Reddish
