Wilcox eliminates ECI from state playoffs

The Bulldogs lost the best-of-three game series last week in the first round of the state playoffs to the Wilcox Patriots. The teams split the two games Thursday with Wilcox taking the third game and the series on Friday.
Word out of Region 2 was don’t sleep on the Patriots. They are a good hitting team, getting hot at the right time and are better than the No. 23 seed ranking.
That prediction proved prophetic as the Patriots run-ruled the Bulldogs in their two wins, outscoring ECI 36-13 in the 3-game series.
The hits in the series were closer, 27 for Wilcox and 16 for ECI. Unfortunately, ECI led in the walk category with the pitching staff yielding 18 walks, with 12 coming in the last game.
Wilcox scored the first 2 runs of Game 1 in the first inning with ECI scratching back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-2 after one.
The Patriots took back the lead in the second inning, scoring 2 runs and extended the lead to 5-3 in the third inning.
Wilcox put the game out of reach with the help of ECI in the fifth inning. The Patriots scored 8 runs on five singles, 3 hit batsmen, 2 walks, and 2 errors to lead the Bulldogs 13-3.
The Bulldogs were not able to plate a run in the bottom of the inning with Wilcox taking the win 13-3 in five innings.
Colton Daniels, Zane Taylor, and Hunter Henry picked up the 3 hits for ECI.
