Funeral services for Barbara Mosses, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, were held at Garfield United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Tom Tidwell officiating. Interment followed at Hebron Primitive Baptist Cemetery. She passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019.
Ms. Barbara Mosses was born September 16, 1939 in Chattahoochee, Florida, to the late William Gordy and Meryl Hill. She graduated from ECI in 1957 and was valedictorian of her class. She also graduated from the University of Georgia with a teaching degree and continued her education with her master’s degree. Under Governor Edwards of South Carolina, Mosses served as the administrator of the Early Childhood Development Program. She taught special education at ECI, Albany, and C. E. Williams, and was also a cheerleading coach at ECI. Mosses enjoyed Christmas, cooking, antiques, and growing flowers inside and outside. She loved her family and friends, and she was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church for more than 25 years. In addition to her parents, Mosses was preceded in death by her stepfather, J. P. Atkinson; brother, Jack Porter Atkinson Jr.; and grandson, Cole Mosses.
Survivors include her son, Sean W. Mosses of Twin City; daughter, Holly B. Mosses of Charleston, South Carolina; brother, Lawrence (Patricia) Atkinson of Garfield; grandsons, Josh Mosses and Jacob Mosses, both of Charleston; great-grandson, Reid Mosses of Twin City; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers were Josh Mosses, Jacob Mosses, Lash Atkinson, Matt Brown, Buck Brown, and Reginald Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were current and retired educators
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
