Swainsboro sweeps East Laurens

The Swainsboro Tigers found some momentum against East Laurens in two non-region victories last week, winning 7-6 and 9-2. The wins got the Tigers back into a positive frame of mind to complete the first third of the season’s schedule at 5-7 with Vidalia on tap this week to begin region play.
Swainsboro took an early 2-1 lead when Kade Youmans led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple and Davis Lamb and Kytle Phillips delivered run-scoring hits to put the Tigers on top. Swainsboro stretched the lead to 4-1 on a squeeze bunt by Lamb and a sacrifice fly by Tyler Brinson. Starting pitcher DJ Jackson was rolling until a rough fifth inning with 2 infield hits, 2 walks, and then a dropped ball in the outfield with 2 outs, which allowed the Falcons to take the lead, 5-4. Swainsboro took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning with a game-tying single from RJ Phillips and a sacrifice fly from Kytle. Elijah Loyd closed out the victory in the seventh inning with a hitless frame to give Swainsboro the 7-6 win.
