Swainsboro Police Department and Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office will host a civilian weapons course on Saturday, March 23, beginning at 8 a.m. Applications can be picked up at Swainsboro Police Department and the probate court. Only 10 individuals will be selected for participation for each class and must arrive at 8 a.m. inside Swainsboro Police Department’s courtroom to attend the classroom portion of this course. The group will then proceed to the firing range located behind the Emanuel County Jail. All instructions and costs are attached to applications.

The civilian weapons course is designed as an introductory level of basic instruction for individuals who have handguns, a valid Georgia weapons carry license, and want to handle firearms confidently and safely.

The overall goal of this course is to instruct participants on the fundamentals of shooting, which include firearms safety and Georgia law. This program is the first step in developing an overall understanding of owning and operating a firearm in Georgia.
