On Friday, March 1, Emanuel County Family Connection partnered with the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with the students at Early Head Start. Volunteers enjoyed reading various Dr. Seuss books as much as the children enjoyed hearing them.
The Swainsboro Kiwanis Club also gave mini board books to every child in hopes of encouraging parents to read to their children at home. Family Connection supplied two Dr. Seuss books to each child through a QR code read-aloud program that parents can access through a smartphone or tablet.
“We want to use every available resource to help parents start their child on a road to the love of reading,” said Tammy Allen, Family Connection coordinator. “Even at this young age, children learn language through hearing books read to them. As part of our work to improve literacy, Family Connection seeks partners like the Kiwanians to provide books and activities for families, especially these little learners.”
