At 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Cross Green Community will welcome Superintendent Kenneth H. Thomas for its Black History Month celebration.
Themed “Black Migrations,” this year’s event will focus honor African Americans in motion as they moved from farms to cities and from poverty to the national stage in business, politics, literature, and the arts from the 20th century to present day.
Superintendent Thomas is pastor of William Grove Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Millen and Statesboro. He is married to district missionary Susie Thomas and together, they have been blessed with five sons, five daughters, and 15 grandchildren.
The guest pastor joined Williams Grove COGIC under the leadership of the late Elder J.W. Hawkins. In 1978, the Spirit of the Lord called him to the ministry, and the late Bishop J.H. Dell ordained him to be an elder. The Lord called Elder J.W. Hawkins home and in 1982, Elder Thomas became pastor of Williams Grove COGIC.
Elder Thomas was appointed superintendent of the Millen District on August 11, 1996. He is currently the overseer of 12 churches and serves as chairman of the ordination board for the Northern Georgia II Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. He is a spiritual leader who truly cares about God’s people; he is a pastor in accordance with God’s heart. On August 17, 2009, he was appointed as an administrative assistant to Bishop Mark Walden, prelate of the Northern Georgia II Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Internationally, Superintendent Thomas is a delegate of the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ. He is also a member of the International Pastors and Elders Council in the International Church of God in Christ.
He is the pastor of Williams Grove COGIC Millen and Statesboro. Under his leadership, the church is continuing in growth and soul-saving. His motivating motto is “Be Somewhere Around the Top.”
Dinner will be served after the service. The host church is pastored by Rev. Michael Thomas. He and the Piney Grove family invite all.
