The Swainsboro Tiger baseball team will get things started next week, hosting Treutlen County on Monday and ECI on Tuesday. The annual Citizens Bank Invitational Tournament will be that weekend (February 16) with Swainsboro also hosting the Wendy’s Invitational the following weekend (February 23).

The Tigers will have an experienced team, returning seven of nine starters to the lineup, looking to build on last season’s 13-13 record. Seniors RJ Phillips, DJ Jackson, Davis Lamb, and Gannon Thompson will lead the way, followed by good experience from the junior class. Nathan Copeland, Tyler Brinson, Kade Youmans, King Screws, Kyle Riddle, and Kytle Phillips round out this talented group. Sophomore Elijah Loyd is likely the only underclassman in line for starting duties with freshman Kaleb Edenfield possibly earning innings from the mound.

Swainsboro once again joins an extremely competitive Region 2-AA, minus last season’s state champion, Benedictine, who moved out of the region. Jeff Davis also made the state’s Final 4 last year and will be a front runner for the top team. The past two state champions have come out of Region 2-AA.
