The Seedling Garden Club met Monday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. inside Swainsboro First United Methodist Church’s social hall. The main topic of the meeting was the planning of the spring flower show.
Using the title “Plant America with Georgia on My Mind,” the floral exhibition will be held April 27 and April 28 at the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center on the Swainsboro campus of East Georgia State College.
Show judges Paula Karrh and Judy McWhorter presented the meeting’s program and discussed rules from the new flower show handbook. Among their discussion items were the numerous changes that have been implemented by National Garden Clubs, Inc (NGC).
McWhorter and Karrh also outlined the scale of points used for judging a flower show. NGC sets the guidelines for flower shows, which are used to determine award winners.
Rounding out their program, the speakers distributed registration sheets for the design division. This part of the flower show is open to garden club members only whereas the horticulture division is open to anyone.
More information about the flower show will be made available as plans are finalized.
