Funeral services for Mary Ruth Brown Cooper, 83, will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Harrison and Reverend Gene McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Wadley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, February 12, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church. She died Saturday evening, February 9, 2019 at Marshall Pines Assisted Living in Evans.
Mrs. Mary Ruth Brown Cooper was born in Emanuel County to the late Harley Daniel Brown and Ruth Beasley Brown. She was a graduate of Swainsboro High School and attended Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton. She and her husband, Billy, owned and operated Cooper Machine Company for many years. Cooper was a member of Wadley Baptist Church. In July 1942, she won the honor of representing Georgia’s 4-H in the American Youth Leadership Training Camp held at Camp Shelby, Michigan, and in 2015 was the recipient of the Distinguished 4-H Alumni Award 4-H Hall of Fame. In addition to her parents, Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Cooper, and her siblings.
Survivors include two sons, William Brown (Beth) Cooper of Wadley and Robert Marlow (Jean) Cooper of Bartow; grandchildren, Anna (Mark) Workman, David (Jessica) Cooper, Betsy (Matthew) McKarney, Frances (Jeremiah) Bryd, Andrew (Carrie Ann) Cooper, and Daniel (Christina) Cooper; and great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Will Workman, Penn Charlotte, and Tyson Cooper, and Rhett Cooper.
Pallbearers will be Mark Workman, Matthew McKamey, David Cooper, Daniel Cooper, Andrew Cooper, and Jeremiah Byrd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wadley Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society in memory of Mary Ruth Brown Cooper.
Tomlinson Funeral Home and Crematory of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
