Funeral services for James Monroe Hill, 74, of Swainsboro were held Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Shepard officiating and Rev. Shannon Boula assisting. Interment followed at Eastbrook Cemetery with military honors. He passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta.
Mr. James Monroe Hill was born October 30, 1944 in LaFollette, Tennesee to the late Elmer and Dora Mynatt Hill. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict, and he later graduated in 1974 from Draughn’s Business College in Knoxville, Tennessee. Hill worked in the manufacturing industry for more than 40 years, retiring from Ithaca Industries. He was also a prison guard for nine years with the Wrightsville YDC and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rosemarie Hill of Swainsboro; one daughter, Melissa (Roger) Thrower of Greenville, Alabama; three sons, Mikel Hill of McKenzie, Alabama, James E. Hill of Greenville, Alabama, and Ronald (Karen) Hill of Twin City; five sisters, Patsy (Jeff) Maurice, Doris Brockman, and Carolyn Popplewell, all of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Lora (Rick) Pettiford and Lisa Bourff, both of LaFollette; three brothers, Paul (Carol) Hill of LaFollette, Bob (Brenda) Hill of Stockbridge, and Jack (Donna) Hill of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
