Miss Akins, Mr. Kerbo to wed in the spring

Ms. Melissa Newsome-Akins of Claxton and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Akins of Swainsboro are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Miss Lauren Elizabeth Akins of Statesboro, to Mr. John Anthony Kerbo. He is the son of Ms. Dorita Kerbo and Mr. Donn Kerbo, both of Garfield.

The bride-elect is currently enrolled in the radiologic technology program at Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro. She graduated with honors from Emanuel County Institute in 2015. Miss Akins is the granddaughter of Dolly Newsome of Swainsboro, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hutchinson of Adrian, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Akins of Statesboro, and the late David Newsome. She is the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Curl of Swainsboro, the late Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Newsome of Kite, the late Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood Mincey of Twin City, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Rayford Akins of Statesboro.

The groom-elect graduated from Emanuel County Institute in 2014 and is currently employed at Great Dane in Statesboro. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hendley of Garfield and the late Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Kerbo of Tampa, Florida. He is the great-grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hendley of Garfield, the late Mr. and Mrs. Mason McKinney of Millen, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Kerbo of Tampa, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Oliphant of Tampa.

The couple will exchange vows Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Garfield. A reception will follow in the church’s social hall.
