The Wiregrass Chapter of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting Thursday, December 13, at Norma and Julian Sconyers’ Clubhouse.
With President Wilder Smith, Jr. presiding, there were 25 members in attendance. This Christmas event has been sponsored by the Sconyerses for several years. Julian and his son, Jay, are members of the Wiregrass Chapter. This year, Norma and Julian, assisted by Buddy Cobb, served their signature grilled pork chops, along with all the trimmings.
The Wiregrass Chapter did not have a program scheduled for the December meeting, so President Wilder Smith Jr. instead presented the Fred Darwin Womack/Wiregrass Chapter Distinguished Service Medal to the chapter’s most outstanding member. This medal can only be presented to an SAR member one time, and the medal is only presented once yearly by the chapter president. Compatriot Emory Fennell received the service medal for 2018. Judy Womack, the late Fred Womack’s wife, helped President Smith bestow the award.
