Mike “Papa” Carter, 72

Funeral services for Mike “Papa” Carter, 72, of Swainsboro were held Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating. Interment followed at Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum. He passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Fairview Park Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Mike “Papa” Carter was born August 1, 1946 in Milford, Virginia to the late Taylor James Carter Sr. He moved to Swainsboro in 1969 to work at Keller Industries. Carter loved cooking and spending time with family. He loved unconditionally, and he was the owner/operator of Carter’s Drywall for 30 years. He also worked with Ogburn Hardware. Carter was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father; grandmother, Eva Bell Carter; wife, Patricia Carter; son, Michael Wayne Carter Jr.; and son-in-law, Roy Reese Jr.

Survivors include his daughter, Betty Jo Reese (Ben Brewer) of Adrian; brothers, Jimmy (Joyce) Carter, Rodney Carter, and Steve Carter, all of Virginia; sisters, Faye (David) Garza and Tammy Thomas, both of Virginia; grandchildren, Wes (Kristie) Johnson and Wade Reese, both of Adrian; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Johnson and Kaden Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
