Maurice Hurbert Nimmons, 85

   Funeral services for Maurice Hubert Nimmons, 85, of Swainsboro will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, South Carolina, with Reverence Dwight Greene and Harry Osborne officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday, December 5. He died Sunday evening, December 2, 2018 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. He was surrounded by his family and given an honor guard escort as a final farewell tribute.

Mr. Maurice Hubert Nimmons was born October 13, 1933 in Commerce to the late Leroy and Madline Hanks Nimmons. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and participated in Operation Castle in the Marshall Islands while serving aboard the USS Renshaw. Nimmons was a master mason with the Statesville Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 27. Shortly after marrying his wife, Ruth Cole Nimmons, they were baptized together. In addition to his parents, Nimmons was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include his son, Maurice H. Nimmons Jr.; daughters, Marcie (Bill) Simmons, Kim (Richard) Doricchi of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Melanie Cole (David) Powell of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Rino (Stefanie) Doricchi, Shea (Jordan) Walton, and Cole, Sarah, and Hannah Powell; two step-grandchildren, Wes (Haley) Simmons and Jessica (Brooks) Collins; and one great-grandchild, Lillian Walton.
