Dr. Howell to speak at EGSC Fall Commencement Ceremony

East Georgia State College will hold their Fall Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Gymnasium on the Swainsboro campus. Speaker for the event will be Dr. Jeff Howell, while the Alumni speaker will be Matt Donaldson and the student representative will be Rebecca Mason.

A native of Durant, Mississippi, Dr. Jeffery B. Howell has been a professor of history at East Georgia State College for 9.5 years. He earned his Ph.D. and Master of Arts degrees in U.S. History at Mississippi State University. He also earned a Masters of Divinity from Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Mississippi. Before becoming a professional historian, he served as a minister for fifteen years to various Southern Baptist churches in Mississippi. He has been married to his wife, Anita, for 24 years, and they have a 12-year-old son, Justin. Dr. Howell’s academic expertise covers areas as diverse as the Civil Rights Movement and early Christian history.

Matt Donaldson graduated Cum Laude from East Georgia State College with an Associate Degree in Science in Business Administration. After completing his Associate Degree, he continued his education at Georgia Southern University and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. He has also graduated from the Georgia Banking School at the University of Georgia and is currently attending the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University and should graduate in May 2019.

Donaldson began working with Durden Banking Company, Inc. in 2006, while still in high school, and has been there ever since. He currently serves as Assistant Vice President and Controller.

He is actively involved with East Georgia State College, serving as the founding member and President of the East Georgia State College Alumni Association. He also serves on the East Georgia State College Foundation Board of Trustees.

Donaldson was elected to public office in 2016 and currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Twin City.

Rebecca Mason is a freshman at East Georgia State College. She graduated from Swainsboro High School in the Spring of 2018. As the daughter of a professor (Dr. Walt Mason), she has had the unique opportunity to watch EGSC grow. She has always been involved on campus, even as a child. She currently serves as the Student Government Association Vice President, a Student Ambassador, a Correll Scholar and a CHOICE Program Peer Mentor. Her major is Business Administration and she plans to graduate in the Fall of 2019 and venture into marketing and interior design.
