Wiregrass Chapter members learn about Kings Mountain

The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting on Thursday, October 11, with President Wilder Smith presiding. Thirteen members and three guests attended.
The evening’s program was presented by Compatriot John Derden. He has been a member of the Wiregrass Chapter since July 30, 2018, and his patriot ancestor is John Chastain, who served in Virginia during the American Revolution. Derden’s program was on the Battle at Kings Mountain.
Kings Mountain National Military Park is a national military park near Blacksburg, South Carolina, along the North Carolina/South Carolina border. The park commemorates the Battle of Kings Mountain, a pivotal and significant victory by American patriots over American loyalists during the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War. Thomas Jefferson considered the battle “the turn of the tide of success.”
