Swainsboro Rotarians hears from Ohoopee Match Club’s Baker

The Rotary Club of Swainsboro held its October 22 meeting at Catered Creations. Kenny Griffin provided the invocation, and Carl Tankersley led the pledge and Rotary Four-Way Test.
Richard McNeely, sergeant-at-arms, welcomed all guests to the meeting, which included program speaker William Donaldson and Phil Pritchard, long time friend of Donaldson.
Donaldson was in charge of the program and introduced course superintendent Rhett Baker of Ohoopee Match Club, an exclusive private golf course located on the Ohoopee River between Vidalia and Cobbtown.
The unique golf course, completed just days before the meeting, was designed and built by Gil Hanse, one of the world’s current top golf course architects. Hanse also built the course that hosted the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The dunes of the Ohoopee River are covered in sand, vegetation, live oaks, scrub oaks, turkey oaks, sand post oaks, and loblolly pines. The dunes are also home to the Indigo snake, plus other serpents indigenous to south Georgia.
