Local and state agency collaboration means traffic operational changes in downtown Swainsboro. A section of eastbound Pine Street will become one-way on Monday with supporting Main Street/US 1 BU signage and striping work at the intersection.
Monday morning Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) District Sign Shop will begin their work. Planned changes include:
- Installing “no turn”, “do not enter” and “do not block intersection” signs
- Eradicate left turn arrow heading north, solid white line between the northbound US 1 BU thru-lane and existing left turn lane onto Pine Street
- Install double-yellow centerline on US 1 BU, yellow hatching in center lane and refurbish all crosswalks and stop bars as needed
GDOT is supporting local efforts to enhance safety from the fire station located on Pine Street. Trucks leaving the station can freely travel up to the state highway intersection, which along with others downtown, features traffic signal preemption offering emergency vehicles green-light priority.
