Waymond Douglas, 81

Funeral services for Waymond Douglas, 81, of Byron, GA, formerly of Swainsboro, were held Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Darron Moncus officiating. Interment followed at Sardis Primitive Baptist Cemetery. He passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
Mr. Waymond Douglas was born April 7, 1937 in Adrian to the late Gordon Sr. and Minnie Lee Webb Douglas. He was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad for 25 years, and he loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with family. Douglas was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Fort Valley and was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Swainsboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Willoughby Douglas; three sisters, Tincie Kersey, Marzelle Hill, and Charlotte Beasley; and two brothers, Gordon Douglas Jr. and Pharoah Douglas.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Short Douglas of Byron; three daughters, Julie Douglas Way (Jeff Raines) of Statesboro, Sherry Douglas (Steve Sr.) Claxton of Swainsboro, and Barbara Willoughby (Johnny) Gurr of Warner Robins; three sons, Terry Willoughby of Byron, Joe Frank Willoughby of Ariton, Alabama, and Robert (Lisa) Churchill of San José, California; nine grandchildren: Wesley (Amy) Way, Jeremy (Erin) Way, Dustin (Delane) Way, Steve (Hannah) Claxton Jr., Casey Claxton, Natalie Vander (Kyle) Poorten, Emily Gurr, Ashley Willoughby and Clayton (Tawny) Palomino; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers were Wesley Way, Jeremy Way, Dustin Way, Steve Claxton Jr., Kyle Vander Poorten, and Zach Folds. Honorarypallbearers were Joey Webb, Johnny Moore, Doug Kersey, Barney Douglas, Vaughn Beasley, and the Byron Waffle House employees.
