Shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday August 31, 9-1-1 dispatched units to Old Nunez Road and US bypass one for a crash involving two tractor trailer trucks. One of the trailers was a tanker carrying hazmat placard 1203 for gasoline. Due to one trailer being in contact and denting the side of the tanker, a haz-mat response was requested.

While Emanuel County Sheriff’s deputies controlled traffic on the bypass, Swainsboro Police blocked Old Nunez Road at Meadowlake Parkway. Swainsboro Fire stretched hose lines and charged them with foam in case of tank collapse and spill.

Utilizing two heavy duty rotator wreckers from Randy’s and I-16 Towing, the trailers were separated without further damage to the tank. EMS transported one of the truck drivers to Emanuel Medical Center with minor injury.

There was a small amount of diesel fuel from the saddle tanks of both tractors.

Motor Carrier Compliance Division and Troopers from Georgia State Patrol Post 19 investigated the crash.
