David Emanuel Academy’s varsity football team kicked off its 2018 season at home this past Friday night, and the Eagles pulled out all the stops to pummel Covington Academy 34-0.
Senior running back Ashton Greene got the scoring started on a 4-yard touchdown run to put David Emanuel on the board, but the 2-point conversion was no good and the Eagles led 6-0.
The next successful drive saw senior quarterback Baylor Smith firing a 31-yard touchdown pass to Greene, who hauled it in to tack on 6 more points to DEA’s lead. Again, the 2-point conversion was no good, putting the Eagles up 12-0.
Smith called on junior wide receiver Ethan Wells next for an 18-yard touchdown pass, then the quarterback linked up with his younger brother, freshman wide receiver Brayden, for the night’s first successful 2-point conversion as the Eagle offense continued to pound the Bulldogs, leading now 20-0.
Wells hauled in the next pass, a 35-yard strike, to put the game out of reach for Covington. Senior running back drove in the 2-point conversion, and the score was 28-0.
The sixth and final scoring drive for David Emanuel came on a 44-yard pass from Smith to Greene, and with an unsuccessful 2-point conversion, the scoreboard read 34-0 at the end of the fourth quarter.
Next on the Eagles’ hit list is New Creation Christian Academy. David Emanuel will hit the road September 7 to take on the Crusaders in McDonough. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
