Tragic day in Swainsboro

At 12:21 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 911 received a report of an airplane accident at East Georgia Regional Airport.
Fire apparatus en route reported a heavy, black smoke plume. Arriving on scene, they found a Cessna 182 aircraft burning in the grass area of the field. The aircraft belonged to The Jumping Place, a skydiving company out of Statesboro. The parachutists were using Swainsboro airspace due to the Statesboro airport having work done.
Bystanders crossed the fence from the nearby golf club and were able to pull two victims from the aircraft before being driven away by the heat flames of the fire. The fire department, on arrival, stretched an attack line and utilized foam to fight the blaze.
