Swainsboro stuns Jefferson County in season opening thriller

The Swainsboro Tigers opened the season with a thrilling road win last Friday night over the No. 8 ranked Jefferson County Warriors, 14-12. A large crowd of excited Tiger fans urged their team on as Swainsboro expelled every ounce of energy to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard, driving in the final minute of the contest. Swainsboro won at Warriors Field for the first time since 1997, improving to 7-9 in the rivalry series.
It’s not hard to see that a bone-rattling defense is the hallmark of this season’s Tiger squad, but special teams made the first significant play of the season opener as Ka’yun Davis swatted a Jefferson County punt just 4 minutes into the first quarter, giving the Tigers an early scoring opportunity. QB Kade Youmans took advantage quickly with a play action pass covering 35 yards to WR RJ Phillips, who drug defenders for the final 10 yards of the touchdown strike.
